The Beloved Land of Sun
Maracaibo is the name of the language of the Indians, who called to the site where it is located city like Maara-iwo, which means “place where snakes abound.” Other versions indicate that the city name comes from the words indigenous Maare kaye, which means “place in front of the sea.” Another story (less credibly) suggested that the name originated from the city to die in battle the Cacique Mara (the existence of which many doubt). According to this story, after finishing with Mara, the Spaniards shouted “Mara fell,” with the sentence which related to the place where the Cacique Mara had fallen
And that gave rise to distortion phonetic word Maracaibo, is only a legend. However, whether legend or reality, this character has formed part of the heroic people of Zulia.
